The 2010 U.S. Show Jumping Young Rider Tour of Europe has officially begun! Jennifer Waxman, Nick Dello Joio, Michael Murphy, Karl Cook, and Taylor Land are traveling to Young Riders horse shows in Moorsele, Belgium; Reims, France; and Wierden, Holland to compete against the best European show jumping riders under 21 years of age. The team will also spend a week training at Hank Norin's farm in Belgium. Teams of five riders (four competitors and an alternate) from 18 different countries have been invited to compete at these three prestigious shows, where riders will have the opportunity to participate in team Nation's Cup competitions as well as individual Grand Prixs. During the team class, four riders take two trips around a difficult course and their scores are combined to an overall total. The team with the least number of faults after both rounds takes home the gold. The U.S. team hopes to do you all proud!
Day 1-2, 5/9/10-5/10/10:
We just made it to Moorsele today! The trip has been a little tough so far- our flight was delayed for 4 1/2 hours and we have spent more time sleeping on the ground than in beds! Despite this, the horses are safe and sound at the horse show and after asking directions at three different gas stations and flagging down a biker, we are settled in the hotel. We have an easy day of flatting tomorrow and hopefully can do a little sight seeing! Pictures to come shortly. Hope all is well in the USA!
